Where we work

Offshore staffing and virtual assistants for Perth businesses

Perth and Manila sit on the same clock. Same hours, same day, no offset to work around, and no daylight saving to break it twice a year. That's a better working arrangement than most businesses on the east coast can get, and hardly anyone in Perth knows it.

Can a Perth business hire a virtual assistant in the Philippines?

Yes. A Perth business can hire a Philippines-based virtual assistant, usually through an employer of record. Perth and Manila both sit on UTC+8 with no daylight saving, so there's no time difference at all. Your team member works the same hours you do, every day of the year.

There is no time difference

Perth runs UTC+8. Manila runs UTC+8. Neither observes daylight saving. That's not a small gap you manage around. It's the same clock, every day of the year.

Western Australia doesn't run daylight saving and neither does the Philippines, so nothing shifts in October or April. A Perth roster set once is correct forever.

A 9am standup is a 9am standup on both ends. Nobody's calculating anything. Your team member is in the same part of their day as you are, which means they're sharp at the same time you are and tired at the same time you are.

Live customer calls work without planning. If a client rings at 3pm your time, the person who handles that account is at their desk, mid-afternoon, awake. There's no window to protect and no last hour of your day where offshore support has already gone home. End of day handover is barely a handover, because you both finish at the same time and the work is already where it should be.

Why our people want these hours

Here's the thing nobody mentions when you're comparing offshore providers. The Philippine outsourcing industry was built to serve American clients, and American business hours land in Manila as a night shift, roughly 9pm to 6am. That's the standard, and plenty of experienced Philippine professionals have worked it for years.

Nights take a toll. Broken sleep, the health problems that follow it, travelling to work at 8pm and coming home at dawn, and a life that never lines up with anyone else's.

A Perth role is an ordinary nine to five in both cities. No shift work, no reversed body clock, no midnight commute. It's a normal working day for a professional who wants one.

That puts us in a stronger position when we're hiring. We're going after the same experienced candidates as a US-facing employer paying similar money, and we're offering daytime hours. People with real track records take these roles, and they don't leave them lightly, because the alternative on the table is a night shift. Your shortlist is better and your turnover is lower for structural reasons rather than because we say we're a nice place to work.

This part usually goes unsaid in offshore staffing conversations. It shouldn't, because it's the thing that determines whether you're still working with the same person in three years.

What Perth businesses hire us for

Trades and home services

Electrical, plumbing, HVAC and landscaping outfits from Joondalup to Rockingham lose work in the gap between a call coming in and someone calling back. A team member on your exact hours answers the phone while the crew is on site, books the job into ServiceM8 or SimPRO, orders materials and chases the quotes sitting unanswered. Same clock means the booking is confirmed while the customer is still deciding.

Industrial and field services support

Perth's resources economy runs a long tail of contractors, equipment suppliers and maintenance businesses servicing sites across the state. The admin load is heavy: purchase orders, supplier follow-up, compliance documentation, roster coordination, timesheet chasing and invoicing against progress claims. It's structured work that runs to a process, which makes it a good fit for a dedicated remote team member on identical hours.

Professional services firms

Accountants, brokers, engineers and consultancies through West Perth and Subiaco spend too much senior time on document collection, CRM upkeep, proposal formatting and client correspondence. Because there's no offset, your team member sits in the same working day as your fee earners. Questions get answered when they're asked instead of the next morning.

Allied health clinics

Physiotherapy, podiatry and psychology practices across the metro area need the diary full and the phone answered while practitioners are treating. Recalls, referral chasing, health fund queries, rebate processing and rebooking cancellations all get worked through in real time on your hours, which matters when a same-day cancellation has to be filled before the afternoon.

Also serving Adelaide

Adelaide runs UTC+9:30 in winter and UTC+10:30 during daylight saving, so Manila sits an hour and a half behind you for most of the year and two and a half hours behind through summer. A 9am Adelaide start is 7:30am in Manila, or 6:30am once the clocks move. That's still a morning shift for your team member and a near-total overlap with your day. Adelaide's business base leans towards professional services, health, manufacturing support and a growing set of small agencies and consultancies. The roles that come up most are practice and client administration, quote and invoice follow-up, and marketing production support for firms too small to carry an in-house team.

What you're actually comparing it to

Don't compare a Manila monthly rate to a Perth salary. Compare it to what a Perth employee actually costs you once everything's included, because that's the number you're already paying.

On a local hire you carry superannuation, payroll tax once you pass the Western Australian threshold, workers compensation insurance, leave loading, accrued annual and personal leave, and whatever it cost to recruit them. Add the desk, the software licence, the parking and the share of management time that goes into keeping an employee productive.

With an employer of record in the Philippines, the statutory employment obligations sit with the Philippine entity that employs your team member. You direct the work. You pay one monthly amount for the person and their tech, and you're not running Australian payroll obligations for that role.

We won't put a percentage on the saving. It depends on the role, the hours and what you'd otherwise pay locally. The real figures are on the pricing page.

Onshore, and how that works from here

ScaleUp Staff is Australian-managed. The briefing before your team member starts, the quality control after they do and the account management throughout all happen onshore, with senior people who've done the work they're reviewing.

We don't have an office in Perth. This is a remote service and it works the same way whether you're in West Perth or Wangara. We'd rather say that plainly than imply a local presence we don't have.

What you actually get is someone onshore who writes the role brief with you, sets the standard your team member is held to, checks output you're not yet equipped to judge, and is on the call when something goes wrong in the first few weeks. That support runs heavy early and eases off as you get comfortable leading the person yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Is there really no time difference between Perth and Manila?

None. Both sit on UTC+8 and neither observes daylight saving. Your team member's working day is identical to yours, start to finish, every day of the year. There's no overlap window to protect and no seasonal adjustment when the eastern states change their clocks.

What hours will my team member work, and is it a night shift?

It's your hours, which for Perth means an ordinary day shift in Manila too. Most Philippine offshore roles are night shifts because they serve American clients. A Perth role isn't. That's a significant part of why experienced candidates want these positions and tend to stay in them.

Do I need a Philippine entity to hire someone?

No. Our Philippine entity employs your team member under an employer of record arrangement, so the local employment obligations sit there rather than with your Western Australian business. You direct the day to day work and we carry the employment structure behind it.

Can they work with our field crews and site schedules?

Yes, and the matching hours help. Coordinating crews, chasing timesheets and updating job schedules only works if the person doing it is available while the work is happening. Because your team member is on the same clock, they're at their desk through your whole operating day.

What if the person isn't the right fit?

If they don't meet the standards we agreed within 60 days, we replace them at no extra cost. Before it gets there we'd usually be working the problem with you, because early issues are more often about unclear briefing than about the person's ability.

Do you have a Perth office?

No. We're Australian-managed but we don't run premises in Perth or anywhere in Western Australia. Everything happens remotely, and the senior person on your account is contactable in your own timezone. We won't pretend to a local address we don't have.
