Philippines vs Australia Staffing Costs: What You'll Actually Save in 2026

A full-time Filipino VA or admin professional usually costs an Australian business somewhere around AUD $1,500 to $2,500 a month all-in. The equivalent Australian hire runs roughly $60,000 to $85,000 a year once you load on super, leave, and overheads. For most SME roles that's a saving of $30,000 to $40,000 or more a year. The real question isn't the saving. It's whether the quality holds up, which we get to below.

These are general 2026 estimates, not financial advice. The numbers move with exchange rates, seniority, and provider fees, so get a current quote before you budget.

How much does a Philippines VA cost vs an Australian one?

Based on 2026 market data, a full-time Filipino VA's monthly salary tends to land around AUD $700 to $1,400 for general admin, $1,300 to $2,100 for mid-level work like social media, content, or customer support, and $2,100 to $3,500 or more for specialists like bookkeepers, SEO people, executive assistants, or junior developers. These are salary figures, and they shift with the exchange rate.

Australian VAs and admin staff usually charge AUD $25 to $50 an hour, and a permanent Australian admin or EA role sits at $60,000 to $80,000 or more a year before on-costs. The gap is large because Filipino pay is benchmarked to the local market, not yours, and the work is often comparable.

One thing to hold in mind. Salary isn't the total cost. You add either statutory employer costs if you employ, or an EOR fee if you go that route. As a rough rule, mandatory Philippine employer contributions add somewhere around 12 to 22 percent on top of gross salary, covering SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, and accrued 13th-month pay, and an EOR charges a flat monthly fee on top. Even fully loaded, the total usually lands well under the Australian number.

What's the loaded annual cost at part-time vs full-time?

These are realistic figures for a mid-level admin VA in 2026. Treat them as ballpark numbers to test against a live quote, not fixed prices. Part-time at 20 hours a week works out to roughly AUD $9,000 to $15,000 a year all-in. Full-time at 38 to 40 hours runs roughly AUD $18,000 to $30,000 all-in for most admin and support roles, more for specialists.

"All-in" means salary plus statutory employer costs plus the EOR or agency fee. The number that actually leaves your account. Compare that to an Australian part-timer at $30,000 to $45,000 or a full-timer at $70,000 to $90,000 or more loaded, and the saving is real at either level. Part-time is often the lowest-risk way to start. You get real capacity and a feel for the working relationship without the full commitment.

Is the quality difference worth the $30 to $40k a year saving?

This is the question that matters, so here's the straight version. For structured, process-driven work like inbox and calendar management, data entry, CRM upkeep, bookkeeping support, customer service, scheduling, and reporting, there's often little to no quality gap with a well-chosen Filipino hire, and the saving is real and recurring. The Philippines has a deep, English-fluent professional workforce. That's why it's the world's leading destination for offshore support roles.

Where you can see a gap is in work that needs deep local context, like nuanced Australian tax or regulatory judgement, or in senior strategic ownership. Even those are increasingly handled offshore with the right hire and proper onboarding. The saving is most clearly worth it when you do three things. Document your processes, hire for the specific role instead of expecting one generalist to do everything, and invest in onboarding. The businesses that report a quality gap are usually the ones who handed over fuzzy instructions and expected someone to read their mind. Set the hire up properly and the $30 to $40k saving rarely costs you quality.
